What Is Birth Your Way?
Not everyone wants a doula, and that’s okay. I believe everyone needs providers they align with.
Most childbirth classes and doulas encourage you to interview multiple providers. If you have the time and resources, that’s great advice! In practice, it’s a heavy lift. Scheduling interviews takes time. Providers are often asked the same questions again and again. And most pregnant people and their close circles don’t know:
Which local providers regularly support successful VBACs
Who is open to maternal-assisted cesareans
Which home birth midwives offer payment plans
Which hospitals have lower-intervention options
As a doula in this community, I do.
Being able to birth your way should be available to everyone, including people who decide that not hiring a doula is the right choice for them. That’s a choice I support, too.
The Birth Your Way Podcast eases this burden by doing the interviewing for you, so you can listen, reflect, and decide what feels aligned.
What Is Your Why?
My own birth journeys brought me here. I have experienced an unexpected cesarean I followed by an unmedicated VBAC. I’ve labored and birthed with and without an epidural.
My personal experiences taught me the power of making my own informed choices vs. completely outsourcing knowledge and decision-making about my body to someone else.
Those experiences taught me how powerful it is to understand my values, my risk profile, and my full range of options in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Birth is transformative. You don’t grow and birth a human and come out unchanged.
Becoming a parent sharpened me. It asked more of me. It invited questions that many of us don’t fully face until parenthood:
Who do I want to be?
What is my relationship to my body?
How do I communicate what I want and don’t want?
What are my values? What are my needs?
Birth has a way of bringing these questions to the surface. Supporting families through birth is how I choose to walk alongside people as they grapple with them.
And it is my honor.
